1871 and 1891 Oxfordshire Census Indexes on CD-ROM
– Dick Eastman

The Oxfordshire Family History Society has announced the release of both the 1871 census index and the 1891 census index for Oxfordshire on CD-ROM disks. The indexes have been available for purchase from the society on microfiche for some time, but the new releases on CD offer much easier and wider access.

The two census indexes cover all the Registration Districts in present day Oxfordshire: Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Chipping Norton, Faringdon, Headington, Oxford City, Thame, Wallingford, Wantage, Witney, and Woodstock. They also include those parts of Brackley, Bradfield, and Wycombe that lie in the present county.

These indexes are in Adobe Acrobat format. The Acrobat reader is free and will run on most machines, including Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX/Linux systems.

United Kingdom residents may order the 1871 and 1891 census index CD-ROM disks for £15 each (each year's census index fills one CD-ROM disk). Anyone outside the UK must pay £16 (approximately $24 U.S. funds) to cover the extra shipping charges involved. Anyone outside the UK is advised to first send an e-mail to HKearsey@aol.com for an exact quote in US, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand dollars to enable payment to be made by personal check in those currencies.
